A wrestler for the new generation, Okada famously states “I’m going to make it rain money on the wrestling world!” Debuting for Toryumon at

the age of 16, he joined NJPW in August of 2007. After training overseas he returned in 2012 to compete in Wrestle Kingdom VI at the Tokyo

Dome, where he joined CHAOS. The following month he defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi to win the IWGP Heavyweight belt in a moment known

Okada would prove that he wasn’t a flash in the pan by winning the G1 Climax twice in 2012 and 2014, and engaging in classic battles with the

likes of Hiroshi Tanahashi, AJ Styles and Minoru Suzuki. Tanahashi would be Okada’s primary rival however. It wasn’t until 2016, and Wrestle

Kingdom 10, when Okada finally defeated the Ace inside the Tokyo Dome for the first time, that the Rainmaker truly arrived. Okada’s fourth

IWGP Heavyweight Championship reign started in June that year, and lasted a record 720 days, with 12 successful defences.

After he finally lost the Championship that shaped him at Dominion 2018, Okada would say he wanted to have more fun with wrestling

after years of championship pressure. His light hearted nature would be broken, however, when CHAOS teammate Jay White stabbed

Okada in the back, along with the man who had been his father figure in wrestling, Gedo. Defeated by White at Wrestle Kingdom 13,

Okada was driven to win the New Japan Cup that year, and began his fifth IWGP Heavyweight reign at G1 Supercard by beating

White in Madison Square Garden. From there he

went on to defend the championship from SANADA and Chris Jericho later that year. Although he had a very strong record in that

year’s G1 Climax, he narrowly lost out on making the finals to Kota Ibushi, who ended-up winning the A Block by tie-breaker.
