Bron Breakker vs. Apollo Crews for the WWE NXT Championship
Apollo Crews returned to NXT earlier this year and has made it clear since that he came back to win the brand’s biggest title. JD McDonagh has been getting in his way since then, but after finally beating him recently, Crews is now next in line to challenge Bron Breakker.
As for whether Crews will finally win gold in NXT, that seems unlikely. Despite the regime change since he became the face of NXT, Breakker is firmly the head of the brand at this point and that probably won’t be changing any time soon.
Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge Match
A new match type will be introduced to WWE at Deadline. The Iron Survivor Challenge match. A sort-of hybrid of the Royal Rumble and an Iron Man match, five Superstars will compete for 25 minutes. Whoever has the most points when the timer runs out in this instance will earn a shot at the WWE NXT Title.
Of the Superstars announced for the men’s match, the most likely winners are Carmelo Hayes and Grayson Waller. Both likely have bright futures in WWE, and whichever of them doesn’t win this and goes on to get a title shot will probably be called up to the main roster at some point between now and the first few months of 2023.
Women’s Iron Survivor Challenge Match
Five of WWE NXT female Superstars will also be competing in an Iron Survivor Challenge match at Deadline. Exactly the same rule set as the men’s match with the only difference being the prize on the line in this one is a future shot at the NXT Women’s Championship.
If Mandy Rose is still champ after Deadline, which seems likely, I’m still struggling to see past Cora Jade being the one who eventually dethrones her. Jade has a huge and potentially very long future with WWE ahead of her. Much like the men’s match, if she doesn’t win this, it probably means she has a call-up in her future.
Pretty Deadly vs. The New Day for the WWE NXT Tag Team Championships
Pretty Deadly bragging that they have beaten everyone there is to beat in WWE NXT and no longer have viable challengers for their titles is pretty telling when it comes to the lack of tag teams on the brand. Especially since they haven’t really been there that long. While WWE figures out how to remedy that long-term, New Day will get a shot.
This match has come out of nowhere just days before Deadline and other than a lack of challengers in WWE NXT, it’s unclear why. Probably just so the Tag Titles actually have a presence on the show. With that in mind, it’ll be Pretty Deadly retaining in this one.
Isla Dawn vs. Alba Fyre
Alba Fyre has been tied up trying to get the Women’s Title off Rose for a long time now, but she has failed at every turn. Time for her focus to shift elsewhere, a task that has been made easier by the arrival of Isla Dawn. Someone she battled in NXT UK who has now joined her fellow Scot in the Stateside version of the brand.
