Tama Tonga
Having received training from his father, the legendary King Haku himself, Tama Tonga debuted in the American indie circuit in 2008. He first appeared in
the New Japan ring in May of 2010, and later joined the BULLET CLUB in May 2013. With his signature face paint and fierce, unpredictable style,
Tama Tonga is a feared opponent in the ring. In April of 2016 he was crowned IWGP Tag Team champion together with his brother Tanga Loa as
Guerrillas of Destiny (G.o.D). He turned heads with a breakout showing at the G1 CLIMAX that same year, defeating Hiroshi Tanahashi,
and adopting the Gunstun, learned from his Bullet Club mentor Karl Anderson, as an effective finish.
While impressive as a singles wrestler, Tonga was at his best teaming with brother Tanga Loa. GoD would continue to evolve throughout
the year, and while they would lose that year’s World Tag league finals against the GBH combination of Tomoaki Honma and Togi Makabe,
they showed their no-nonsense, hardcore brawling worth.
The WTL would continue to evade GoD as they lost in the finals in both 2017 and 2018, but the team quietly became the franchise of the IWGP Tag Team
ranks. As of spring 2019, they were five time IWGP Tag Team Champions, felling greats like the Young Bucks and EVIL and SANADA to hold
the tag team gold more than any team in history, the only exceptions being Satoshi Kojima and Hiroyoshi Tenzan.
Tonga also proved himself to be an impressive politician and tactician. He would mastermind the introduction of Taiji Ishimori into the
Bullet Club, as well as Chase Owens and Yujiro Takahashi’s re-entry to the group after a brief departure. He would disingenuously claim to
start 2019 having turned over a new leaf as ‘The Good Guy’, but having worked his way into the good graces of fans on social media,
quickly showed his true colours. The best at being bad, this was The Good Bad Guy.
